wisdom

"don't be so selfish!!! Don't work, do, make for yourself, your family, your land, your community, your friends, your enemies, your county, your state, your area, your country, your world, your universe---make, work for the future, for all of time to come, for those peoples, for those things; work for the future, for that unknown. leave you mark so the future can look back at you, and know where they stand"

Robert Moses' KIN Audition

I would love to attend and audition...However, I will be in rehearsal at that time for New Fire with choreographer Alleuia Panis, a new play by Cherrie Moraga.

Maybe Next Year I can join in on Robert's work! I would love to dance for him, but as of now, with school and everything else, I do not have the time.

To all other dancers in the Bay Area, consider auditioning. Many of you I am sure are already planning on it!

Best of Luck to you'all MERDE!!!

Open Dancer Audition for: Preservation of Time, Cuauhtemoc's MFA Thesis

Dear Dancers,

I will be holding an Open Audition for Dancers in the Bay Area to be a part of my Master's Thesis Dance Group Piece. As part of the MFA program at Mills, I will be writing a Thesis, Creating a Solo, and Creating a Group work--and it is this group work I would like outside dance talent to join me, and dance this work into existence!!

I am required to use at least 3 Mills College student Dancers, and that selection will be part of a closed audition taken earlier in the week, or at a later date. So, if you are a Mills Student, you need not come to this audition, I will find you at the other one.

I am looking for 6->8->12 dancers ( -the 3 Mills Students).
My preference, for this work, does lean to those who Male (Because Mills is mostly women dancers), and Queer People of Color.
HOWEVER, I AM LOOKING FOR BOMB-ASS WOMEN TO ROCK THE STAGE, so do not let that be a deterrent.

It is also a plus if you have done some Cunningham Technique, and have an awareness of Aztec Dance, Voguing, and/or Post-Modern dance.
"Contemporary" Dance Experience is required.

If you wish to view my Previous Work, and what I am about, please visit:
http://cuauhtemocmitote.blogspot.com/

Lastly, Rehearsals will most likely be on Saturday or Sunday Afternoons; or Monday evenings (rare). They will take place at Mills College, in Oakland, and will be about 2 hours each week, every week while school is in session (Aug'11-April'12).

The Performance will take place the end of the month in April.

Thank You, and I hope to see you at this Audition.

Schedule:
2:00pm: show up, sign up, warm up.
2:15pm: Opening class, greetings, warm up
3:15pm: Combination and experiments.
3:45pm: cool down
4:50pm: end and questions
(this will give you a sense of my teaching style, my work, my ideas, and how I actualize the dance; I may not use the full two hours)

It will Take Place at the Mills College Dance (Haas) Pavilion, in either Studio 1 or 117.

If you have any questions, please e-mail them to me at cperanda@gmail.com

Thank You!

I make the land holy

"Wherever a dancer stands is holy ground." - Martha Graham

I truly believe this. The dancer, as he prepares his mind, body and spirit--as he focuses his breathe, his muscles, his energy--and he initiates himself and makes time, space, force-energy his material, he blesses the world: he makes all things holy.

To the Aztec Dancers, to dance, is to bless the world, and stabilize the earth. To dance, ensure the earth keeps spinning, ensures that the cycles continue, ensure a renewal. By dancing, we effectuate balance in the world.

Yes. We as dancers are the Athletes, the Divine Warriors of The Creator. We fight, we resist death and hardship through our dancing. Our Athletic feat is to win no competition, it is to gain nothing but create, put dance into the world, and let the world take our positive dance, our energy.

The Dance Studio is a holy place....respect it.....the dance floor is holy ground, do you best work there, be yourself, you are safe there, you are loved!

a thought-poem:

There’s a time in every man’s life.

When life stops happening to him.

And when he starts happening to it.

I once wanted too much.

To be a twink.

Now.

I want to be me.

The best Cuauhtémoc possible.

The kind of gay, that is Mitote.

What kind of gay are you?

Jock?

Twink?

Label whore?

Scene queen?

Gym bunny?

Me?

I’m Mitote.

THE HOUSE OF LIGHT

To me, this is what the house of light can look like.
The Guardian, Huehuecoyotl watching.
I, the Eagle, messenger, with him.

In the darkness, we found each other, as we search for what we found, the house of light, and we were warm, safe, i love you.

PUSSY DON'T FAIL ME NOW!

I wanted to share this video, because it speaks to me as a man. As a Gay man, to my gay brother-en.

There are times, when, you know, our man may look to the other ones. There are times when we may look to the other ones. But we have to remember, the sexy times is not just played by one member: it takes two tango.

Look, if you are having a bad time in bed. Maybe it is him, or maybe it is you, or maybe it is both of you. But ...!!!
YOU MUST SPEAK TO YOUR BODY. You must make it feel good.
Speak to you boy-pussy, your Man-gina. Te'll 'em what it's all about, and make sure you get the job did!!!

Feeling Soft and Cunty is just another way of say'n you're horny and you ready to pounce and make some sweet love! No quickie shit, but some sweet love!!

SO, to dance soft and cunty, is to have that sexuality, that sultry werk about you.
To be soft and cunty, means to be sweet as sugar, but as rich as the darkest chocolate.
Pussy!
Pussy! is not just in reference to a woman, but a sexual power!!!
Cunty, (not cunt), is is an adjective of the most delicious thing to ever find.
Whether it be a penis or a vagina, you best call it out, and make it work...

"Pussy don't fail me out, i gotta bust this brotha out!!!"
"so he don't want nobody else"
"but me, and only me"

hahah!!!

Your life isn't as carefree as others assume just because you make it appear as if you are having a lot of fun, even when you're troubled. Your defense mechanisms can effectively hide a very deep well of feelings today. But just going through the motions isn't very rewarding, so share some of what's on your mind with someone you trust. If you're having a hard time starting the conversation, write down your thoughts and use your notes to get the ball rolling.

MTV makes me sad

I tried to watch the Jersey Shore, this new one: lasted 2 minuets before my head started to spin. Knowing that they make 100,000.00 an episode, and snooki got paid to give a lecture on partying at some university, while i struggle to be a scholar and dance, and so many people are suffering in the US, makes me gag! The show teaches that things work out if you are "a hot-mess of a fuck-up"....in reality, this is not true...its really gross....

Learning to be an adult.

By Cuauhtemoc Peranda

I am wiring this not because I am tired of you bitches.

****please listen to song “shitty fagots” by Sophia Lamar*****

Well, I am not too tired of ya’ll…more just tired with life and this craziness that is the hangover of college: adulthood.

So I wanted to smack ya’ll in some knowledges that I have since aquired in this short time of gradschool/adulthood.

1) Respect your elders. They have great wisdom, and there are always those more ancient than you. And when you are the oldest person in the world, well, deal with it. You’re kind of the source of knowledge. NOW that you are an adult, truly, on par with all of them, note, you have little power, though you are not a kid, you have almost no say in the world….but you can try, and you can werk! And boom, you become an elder at 23……it does happen…

2) YOU ARE NOT PRIVILLEGED, SO STOP FEELING ENTITLED!!! (well, if you are a straight white male with a good-to-do family, go ahead and fill entitled, werk it (as you already are) and get all you “deserve”, I would werk it too!). If you went to college, hey, guess what, it wasn’t a guarantee on anything!!!! There are people with PhD’s, BA’s, Masters, etc out of work, working at Wal*Mart…I Know, I work with them.

a. Just because you have a degree, doesn’t mean squat. What you do with it, how you network, etc, that what matters….so suck some dick and kiss ass, it’s important!

b. All humans are sexual people, it’s pretty easy to control others by improving your sex appeal (there are statics on this).

c. The UNIVERISTY was originally made for the study of Arts, Humanities, and Sciences. What the fuck does that mean? Well, lets see, all 3 are interested in 1 question: WHAT MAKES UP THE WORLD IN WHICH WE LIVE? Hmmmm. So in that case, the College system is made to expand your mind, and improve your life by teaching you how to learn, create, explore, test, evaluate and analyze, report, research, continue, and contemplate. That’s all. The arts, the sciences, and the Humanities are all the same, really, look into them, they just use different tools….reality is a funny puzzle, and it is taking many many many years to figure it all out….but that is college….try not to expect anything else.

d. COLLEGE NOW DAYS HAVE BECOME A VOCATIONAL SCHOOL. This means, you learn a trade, and you do that trade. Engineering, Medicine, Law, Business, Education, etc… in these field, you may expect a job out of the schools. You may feel entitled, cuz there is work out there fore you…and it is easy to get. No grants, no proposals…there is a way to werk! And work will come….but do not expect to have an open mind of wonder and questions, you do your work, and you have money, be happy.

e. MONEY!!!

i. Ya’ll need to learn how to be poor.

ii. Living on coupons, etc.

iii. Really?

f. Look. I was one of the most decorated graduates of Stanford University. I work at wal*mart. What’s up? Doesn’t make sense? Well I need to pay rent, I need to eat, so umm, yeah… that’s life for me at the moment. I do have an education, therefore there is possibility for me, and if not, I can make it happen….others at wal*mart are not so lucky…. And for them, My heart sinks dearly, and I wish them the best!

g. I want to tell you, those who have a bit of money/income. Be thankful every day you need not worry about how to pay your medical, housing, food, and dental bills too much. Be thankful you can go to clubs and blow 20, not see that as a weeks worth of food for me…be thankful that for a birthday you see spending 17-23 dollars on a meal is fine. Be thankful that you make so much. And most importantly GIVE TO YOUR FRIENDS WHO ARE LESS FORTUNATE! I love to say give to the needy, but there are those needy in your friend groups! MLK was not rich, Neither were a lot of Nobel Prize winners, and great artist….it seems we do not pay the visionaries much. Before and after their work, just for their work….but then how do they ever get the works done? They starve in poverty. What a great mech. Of control!!! Good job America….

3) RACISM STILL EXIST

a. I am brown, its scary

b. My name is Cuauhtemoc Peranda. I will now force you to pronounce it!!!! I am tired of the laziness, and the fear. Do not fear me!!

c. Black men, who “make it” I don’t know how you avoid prison and being a pimp….it seems that’s all anyone expects of you.

d. Women, I feel for you and how bad men treat you…

e. Ladies, take care of yourself!

f. Queer people of color. Everyone hates you. Especially you that are bisexual. But you better werk! Otherwise, you will die. End of story.

4) UNDOCUMENTED IMMERGRANTS, DEAL. SOME OF YOU, I HAVE NO SYMPATHY. BUT THERE ARE THOSE I WILL REACH OUT TO! THE ONES WITH PRIVLLEGE, DEAL. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT MY FAMILY HAS HAD TO GO THROUGH DOING THE LEGAL ROUTE.

5) GAYS, GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE. MARRIAGE IS NOT THE BIGGEST DEAL RIGHT NOW. HIV MEDICATION AND WORKPLACE/SOCIAL RIGHTS ARE MUCH MORE IMPORANT. MARRIGAE IS JUST AND EFORCEMENT OF RULES ON YOU. YES IT IS GOOD FOR THOSE WHO WANT IT, BUT DAMN!!!

6) Sexuality is changing, what was once the masc. man is now the jocky/twink but now, it is changing back to a more masculine model…women are also becoming wanted to be more curvy…interesting….

To be in a adult means a lot of things.

But how do u be one?

Budget money

Do what you enjoy

Spend what little money you can

Give back to others.

That all

--this is my spending money

--on Fridays I go out for dancing and 1 drink

--have dinner parties, small potlucks

--work my ass off

--try to do what I love every day, for at least 15 min a day

--stay healthy, brush, floss, bathe

--keep myself clean

--be a good citizen, be and activist, vote and volunteer and protest

if a mother, raise your children to become all they can be.

End….

Antonio’s Monologue

Antonio’s Monologue

Sweet Sugar…. Azucar!!! A play by La Diva Cuauhtemoc

Antonio speaks to Sugar. She has just told him about Realness, a blessing from the spirit world. And of course, they were listening to Celia Cruz.

ANTONIO:

That Celia Cruz….you’re right Sugar. She was talking about you.

Realness…

[…]

What a difficult thing to understand:

I remember, when I was younger

A little boy--not now of course. But. When I was Rheel’ small.

I used to dream in HATRED, for myself…

I used to pray.

Every night. That I would be, smaller. To the point of invisibility…yeah. I remember.

[…]

I used to ask GOD, the creator, or whatever spirit would listen, to please change me, into; a small guy.

It seemed like everybody liked them. These, I know to call twinks.

{

…and everyone seemed to dislike me…

}

except, those weirdoes… they let me be their friend.

Every night I asked: “please, please god, turn me into a twink”. Over and over again.

And then. One night. he spoke to me.

“NO”

*I was scared as all I could be.

“NO, YOU ARE THE WAY I CREATED YOU, FOR A PURPOSE…IT IS YOUR CHALLENGE, IT IS YOUR BEAUTY. I WILL NOT CHANGE YOU”

Of course, when I heard that, I went to my covers, scared to think anything other than how WHITE my wall looked.

[…]

The next morning, I woke up rested. And I believed I was beautiful.

But it was a beauty no one could see. well, a few can.

I believed that God gave me this challenge because he knew I could…

That this would be my hardest thing for me to do throughout my life.

Overcome.

I don’t know I believe myself.

But you know, then, I did, then, accept myself…

It was then, that moment, I found my realness…

Yet, I didn’t know what that meant, until you.

End.

a note on stanford, well, on all higher education.

It was a gift and a blessing for me to have gone to Stanford.

It was an amazing experience, a time that was super and wonderful.

For 4 years, my real worries were at a minimum. All I needed to so was Study, work a bit, investigate my passions, network, be social, party, and stay healthy. For me, that was an Ideal life.

For four years, I was surrounded by interesting and passionate people.

For four years, I was encouraged to follow my passions, and pushed to become all I could be.

In those four years, I learned what I wanted to be for the rest of my life.

In those four years, I matured......at great lengths, strain, and with great reward.

However, those four years are over, and I am very interested in this thing called "adulthood".

Many of my friends have avoided it.

They have gone to grad school (well, with grad school, sometimes you don't avoid adulthood).

They went home to live with their parents.

They took more years for "school".

They are wondering the world, supported on others' dime, and doing as they please.

This, however, is very rare.

The Majority of people out there, well, they go and get a Job.

Because of the economy, Careers are short, so Jobs is all some can get.

Some of us too, get 2 or 3 jobs.

Some of us cannot find a job in the fields we with to pursue.

Some of us struggle to pay rent.

Some of us struggle to eat.

Some of us have a bad cavity, thus leading to a tooth to be removed--instead of a rot canal, which leads to a total cost of 2,000 for one operation (2-4 months worth of rent).

These last "some of us" tends to be the majority of us.

As it turns out, even majoring in Computer Science (though there are jobs out there) is getting harder and harder to find work.

Everything is getting hit, bogged down. It's really scary.

People are holding on to their jobs as hard as they can, with the hope of medical insurance, with the hope of some kind of benefit.

Life is getting harder and harder.... in this "Great Country"

But, Back to Stanford.

There, I had a few loans. There, I was able to pretty much live and be happy. There, I felt wealth and knowledge wash over me. There, life was good. And back home, my mom was okay.

But, this is not the case anymore.

As an adult, in the age of 23, I realize I have a lot to do in one year....

With broken teeth, and a tight work schedule, that give me little time to do my other work, or even see a doctor, I have to make due.....

Full of stress, I can make it work......

The word here is:

Education guarantees you nothing.

Not Citizenship.

Not a Job.

Not Peace.

Not health Insurance.

Not Love.

Not really anything.

What it gives you is 4 years of wonder, knowledge, exploration, an fun. It allows you time to open you mind so that you have a greater capacity to view the world. And it a record, showing others that you can do work, and accomplish set goals. It also shows some skills and abilities you have gained...knowledge you have acquired.

THE REAL FACT OF THE MATTER IS...

LESS AND LESS PEOPLE ARE ABLE TO GO TO COLLEGE IN THE TRADITIONAL FASHION.

MORE AND MORE ARE HAVING TO DROP OUT OF STATE AND UC SCHOOLS TO GO TO COMMUNITY COLLEGES.

MORE AND MORE ARE WORKING AND SCHOOLING, JUST TO STAY AFLOAT---THIS MEANS 9-4 SCHOOL, 4-2AM WORK 2-5 SLEEP 5-9 HOMEWORK, REDO!

NIGHT CLUBS ARE FAILING BECAUSE NO ONE CAN AFFORD THEM SO MUCH.

WEED AND ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION IS ON A RISE BECAUSE OF DEPRESSION.

JOBS ARE NOT PAYING THEIR WORKERS ENOUGH, SO THEY CANNOT BUY PRODUCTS, SO THE JOBS REDUCE PAY SO THAT THE WORKERS CAN'T BUY STUFF...ETC ETC...DOOM!!!

shit.

All the while. my duty is to dance. it is to write. it is to remember.

I will do just that.

What Are you? Mitotero.

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

The Choreographer remembers...

The Choreographer remembers...

He remembers the steps you take in your fist movements of the dance.

She remembers the proper technique you must use to execute the dance.

Ze remembers the purpose of the dance.

He remembers why you leg is unable to work today.

She remember the history of movement.

Ze remembers how it space feels, tastes, works.

He remembers time, rhythm, motion.

She remembers why spirit is so important.

He observes the world.

She remembers the history left in her body.

Ze remembers watching people walking down the street, people dancing and dancers working.

He makes sure his dancers are prepared for the work.

She knows how to push herself, her body, her mind, her spirit, and all of that of her dancers.

Ze remembers to be kind, but fierce--how to be an excellent artist.

He remembers all time and history, as long as there has been dance in movement, this is the divine material from which he make his work.

She remembers how to access dance, the most sacred dance, the dance that flows out, and cannot stop.

Ze know the world of dance well.

He remembers that life and dance, the mind and the body, cannot be separate, they exist in their oneness.

He, She, Z, Remembers...

on land, love, civilization, and corruption

The first man who, having enclosed a piece of ground, bethought himself of saying: This is mine, and found people naive enough to believe him, was the real founder of civil society. From how many crimes, wars and murders, from how many horrors and misfortunes might not any one have saved mankind, by pulling up the stakes or filling up the ditch, and crying to his fellows:Beware of listening to this imposter; you are undone if you once forget that the fruits of the earth belong to us all, and the earth itself to nobody.
--Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Thus The importance of emptiness.
House of Light: Decolonization. Free your mind from the tricks of those around you. Believe in the Natural, the nature of things, the Laws of the Universe, not those of beliefs of others. Trust yourself, let go, and find your way, though the darkness, to the house of light.
